I was looking for a software development tool for creating web-based input forms on Teradata database, similar to Oracle Forms, so I did an internet search and came across CloudaIDE. CloudaIDE is an Eclipse based IDE tool for creating Oracle style forms for widely used databases like Oracle, FireBirdSQL, PostgreSQL, mySQL and MS SQL Server, however it was missing support for Teradata. I wanted to give it a try so I downloaded the CloudaIDE software from their website (CloudaIDE.org) and followed the step-by-step installation and configuration manual provided under “Documentation” tab. Installation was a breeze, thanks to the clear instructions. On the website I also saw there was a “Contact US” page with a free hand text box to type, I provided my name and email address and wrote a message to check if CloudaIDE would also support Teradata database in the future. I thought no one would reply, but to my surprise on the very next day I got an email from the genius himself, Mr. Wieslaw Poszewiecki, he mentioned that he would try including support for Teradata database in the future release. We exchanged couple of emails regarding Teradata and how to download it’s free VM version and how to query Teradata data dictionary tables, etc.
Next, after about two weeks, I got another email from Mr. Wiesiek, this time with a download link to the new CloudaIDE version along with instructions on how to install it on Teradata, this was a great news as I was still struggling with Java scripts to develop an input form. I downloaded the newer version and followed the installation guide for Teradata and in few minutes I developed my first web based Form that would save data on Teradata, Voilà!
I had developed forms in the 90's using Oracle Forms and CloudaIDE has the same exact features like PL/SQL support, Triggers, Functions, Procedures, including user_exits. I could not have asked for more. CloudeIDE is the best rapid web-based Form development tool with Oracle Forms like features for non-Oracle databases.
What’s next?
CloudeIDE with SAP HANA Database support? 😊, as the current Eclipse based SAP HANA Studio is only for creating/maintaining HANA database related objects along with support for ABAP and BW Modelling tool, however it still does not have a framework to support web based Forms, which are developed using SAP Web IDE for developing SAP Fiori Apps.
